Julie arrived safe and sound in Bakau. Hotel very basic,electricity keeps going off,and no water most of the time.

Travelled most of the day to a remote village Mandinari. We had to get three busses
All of which were very uncomfortable. Tonight we are staying in round houses with no electricity no water and basic toilets.

Julie is due to meet the Alkalow of Mandinari (head man of the village) today. Returning to Bakau later today to visit a market.
News from Julie received at 10pm Sunday 20 February.
After a long and uncomfortable journey by bus and bush taxi we arrived at the village of Mandinari.
We were entertained by some very enjoyable Drumming.
The overnight stay was an experience, with no heating (the nights are very cold) No electricity, basic toilets, No water, no sheets pillows etc. It certainly makes you grateful of our own home comforts.
Monday 21 February 20011. News from Julie.
Today we met representative from the Catholic School that we are visiting tomorrow (Tuesday).
We now have electricity and water in the hotel, for how long we are not sure!
Eating lots of Omelettes , so not going hungry.
Visited a market today that specialised in Batik fashion.

Today Julie visited a Roman Catholic infant School where the young pupils learn by rote.
In the afternoon Julie visited the Botanical Gardens.

This morning we visited another school with pupils ranging from 7 – 13
With classes of sixty pupils, most of the learning is by rote and chanting.
In the afternoon Julie went on the Beach and then sat by the hotel pool.

Thursday 24 February
Visited a very good craft market and then went on to a nature reserve
Temperature was 100+ PEEEWWWWWWWWWW!!
In the evening the whole party went onto the beach with African Drums and had a good drumming session.

Going to visit the Crocodile farm then onto the airport to catch the plane back to the UK at 3pm home 00.
